HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE
It was Cooper's Vision to see a men's league back in Deep
River. In order to make the league as fair as possible, Cooper
formed a committee of local hockey greats to assist in the vision. Lance's
Loggers, The Farm Team and Fleury's Valu Mart all gave up their Sunday night ice times.
Getting sponsors was a task that involved much touring around on his
bicycle to drum up support. The sponsors came
up with the much needed money for the purchase of Jerseys.
Many, many phone calls were made to get players signed up. Once the word
got out, people started to phone in to play. The first committee meeting
went well, many ideas were flowing and the last piece of the puzzle was a
president. Chuck Gesner suggested Glenn Law as he would be impartial to any
problems arising on the ice. Glenn agreed. So this is your League
gentlemen!
